The real deal: Our role is to prophetically denounce unjust
systems and behavior, no doubt. But that alone is not enough. We have to be
heralds of the Good News of the Kingdom of God. We have to invite people into a
bold vision. We have to have a plan.
Case in point: Endless political debate and editorializing
is not budging the political stalemate in the U.S. In fact, it only seems to be
increasing polarization. By all accounts, fascism is getting further
entrenched. My screen is filled every day with the latest lies, scandals and
atrocities but that is not melting hearts or building bridges. The prophetic
resistance can only claim very few victories at this point. It needs more than
"we're not them." It needs a bold vision forward.
In short, we can't fact-check our way out of fascism.
